I apologize in advance as this is NOT a recipe yet...just a sweet Christmas memory for me with my boys.
Phew! Christmas was a whirlwind and I'm just....wiped out. HOW DO WE DO WE SURVIVE THE GIFT WRAPPING, THE FOOD PREPARING, BAKING ALL THE DESSERTS, THE CLEANING?! Well, as usual, I barely did. But, it was the first year we finally had our act together enough to explore sugar cookies.
|

wanted those delicious, soft, perfect sugar cookies you buy by the dozen at the gas station or grocery store. So we searched for the straight-up best sugar cookie recipe and did ingredient alterations ourselves. While these weren't perfect to the degree that I was shooting for, we got preeeetty close. I'm sure next year we'll have the perfect dairy-free, egg-free, nut-free soft sugar cookie dough recipe to share!
I don't know why I didn't realize how fun and beautiful the process of making sugar cookies is. I love any time I get to use cloth (my pastry frame), wood (my rolling pin), and metal (classic cookie cutters). For some reason, nothing feels cozier or more timeless when baking or cooking than when you are working with raw materials. That's why most everything I can get my hands on in the kitchen is that type of utensil. It makes me feel connected to times gone by. WHO KNEW COOKING AND BAKING COULD FEEL SO TRANSCENDENT.
And my kiddo's pudgy little hands I MEAN CMOOOOOOOOON
As with nearly every blog post, I will ALWAYS share the tools I use for anything or ways to achieve a similar look to my home style at the bottom of the post. This is a habit of mine from long before blogging...my sister calls me a constant evangelist about whatever I love...it's true! I can't stop wanting to share! But no worries, I only share what I believe in or trust.)
